Getting There

By Air

Botswana has three main airports, at Gaborone, Maun and Francistown.   But most people fly into Victoria Falls, Johannesurg or Windhoek then travel overland or fly onwards with Air Botswana.

By Rail

Main rail connection is between Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and Francistown.

By Road

Buses run from Johannesburg to Gaborone, and between Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Road from Johannesburg to Martin's drift border post is in relatively good condition and if you want to head north to Victoria Falls or the Okavango delta, this border post means that you do not need to travel via Gaborone.

Getting Around

By Air

There are many air charter companies based around Maun which mainly offer flights over the Delta or onto private lodges but can be hired to travel to Francistown and other destinations in Botswana.

By Rail

Gaborone, Francistown and Lobatse are linked by rail.  services are daily.

Self Drive

The main roads in Botswana are tar and of good quality, but many roads are gravel or even sand.  Wildlife and donkeys on the roads are a main hazard. For longer journeys make sure you have reserve fuel, plenty of water, and food and blankets.
