CFA (Communaut Financiaire Africaine) Franc (CFAfr) = 100 centimes. Notes are in denominations of CFAfr10,000, 5000, 2500, 1000 and 500. Coins are in denominations of CFAfr250, 100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1. Burkina Faso is part of the French Monetary Area.
Credit cards are not widely accepted, proof of identity is required to cash travellers cheques.

Communications

International direct dialling is available.  there is an extra charge if calls are made from a coin operated telephone
Mobile phone roaming agreements do exit, but coverage is limited to major urban areas.
Internet is available in major urban centres
Post to europe takes around 2 weeks, there are very few post offices, stamps are available from hotels.

Electric Power is 220V running at 50Hz.

Burkino Faso has a tropical two season climate with the dry season from November to March and the wet season from April to October.  The Harmattan wind blows from November to February producing cool dry weather, making this is good time to visit.
