Citadel
an imposing medieval fortress which offers good city iews. The citadel was home to Egyptian rulers for over 700 years, and within its confines you will find the National Police Museum, National military Museum, Mohammed Ali Mosque, Sultan Hassan Mosque, Rafai Mosque and Al Gawhara Palace.
Giza Pyramids
Probably the main reason most people visit Egypt. The three main pyramids here were built around 4650 B.C. The Pyramid of Khufe is the largest and unti the Eiffel Tower was built was the tallest structure in the world. Evening sound and light shows are popular in the evenings.
The Sphinx
Another recognisable face of Egypt, the Great Sphinx has a body length of 60m (200ft) long and 20m (65ft) tall. Its face is 4m (13ft) wide with eyes measuring 2m (6 ft) high. It faces the rising sun.
Memphis & Saqqara & Dashur
Memphis was the ancient capital of the old kingdom. Saqqara and Dashur were burial grounds for the area. Dashur has been open to the public since 1996 and Saqqara has opened in the past few years. There are well preserved wall reliefs and royal tombs at both sites. The open air museum at Memphis is a must see sight.
Egyptian Museum
Cairo has over 30 museums, the most famous of which is the Egyptian Museum. Opened in 1863 (1902 at it's present site) there are over 100,000 objects on display and even more than that in the vaults.
