Getting There

By Air

Egypt Air is the national airline.  But many airlines fly to Cairo.

Main international airport is Cairo (CAI) is 24 km from the city, bus services run every 30 minutes to the city, or taxis are available. Other major airports are Luxor (LXR) 5.5 km from the city. and Borg El Arab,(HBE) 60 km south west of Alexandria.

By Water

Alexandria, Suez and Port Said are prominent ports.  The Saudi sea travel company operates car ferries between Suez and Jeddah.

By Rail

There are no international rail links

By Road

There is a border between Libya and egypt.  Plus there are daily coaches from Tel aviv and Jerusalem to Cairo.

If  you are taking a vehicle over the border you need a carnet de passage from the vehicles registered country of ownership.

Getting Around

By Air

EgyptAir operates daily flights between Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and Hurghada. Air Sinai operates services from Cairo to Eilat, El Arish, Hurghada, Luxor, Ras El Nakab, St Catherine, Sharm el-Sheikh and Taba. 

By Water

There are ferries between Hurghada and Sharm-El-Sheik.  Plus Feluccas (traditional sail boats) can be hired by the hour. Nile cruises operate between Cairo and Aswan or Luxor and Aswan.

By Rail

The Egyptian rail service is very comprehensive.  There is a branch running from Cairo along the Nile to Luxor and Aswan, and an east to west branch from the Libya border via Alexandria to Cairo.

By Road

Traffic drives on the right.  there is an extensive tarred road network, in the Nile basin, and along both the Mediterraen coast and the Red Sea coast.  The only area where driving is not reccommended is the desert region.

Car hire is available but an international driving permit is required.

Buses run regularly in the Nile Valley and along the coast roads.
