Ferries run between Mombasa, Malinda and Lamu.  Or you can hire a traditional dhow from any of these places.

By Rail

Kenyan Railways operates services between Mombasa and Nairobi, and Kisumu and Taveta.  Services are often overnight, so if you want o get off anywhere between the start and end you will arrive in the middle of the night.   The trains are quite modern,  and there are usually sleeping compartments and the dining cars are good.

By Road

Roads are genrally in a good condition in the southern part of the country, and less good to the north.  but there are highways with regular petrol services.  Car hire is available but there are usually excess mileage charges, or companies insist on expensive 4 x 4 vehilces.

Buses: run regularly between towns and cities. They can be crowded.
